Favourite Friday #1.5: Bonus Item that I totally forgot about

Hey guys, you might have noticed the lack of bonus item in my Favourite Friday post from yesterday. I am here to rectify that this evening.

If any of you have been following North American weather patterns for the last week you may have noticed that Calgary got shit on and we received a whopping 12 cm off heavy, wet snow which ruined nearly half of our trees and nearly caused me to lose my life while walking twenty feet from the train to my university. So, my favourite bonus item this week was my winter coat.

I am not in a position to photograph my winter coat just now, but you’ll see a selfie with it later this winter, I promise. My winter coat looks very similar to this one, except that mine is an ultramarine colour.

My coat is called a “janker” (pronounced “yah-ng-ka”) which is a traditional Austrian boiled wool coat. The company Geiger makes both traditional ones and modern ones, the latter of which my coat is classified as. Being 1/4 Austrian, I like connecting to this portion of my heritage a little bit while still being practical. You can only wear so many dirndls before people start asking questions.

I really like this jacket because it’s really warm but the fabric is actually really thin. The boiled wool captures all of your body heat and keeps it close to your body, so I feel comfortable wearing this coat into -20*C or so before I think about switching to my other coat. Of course, at that temperature I’m also wearing a sweater over a shirt (so a cardigan, usually), a scarf, hat, gloves, etc. So I’m not just throwing this on over a t-shirt.

Geiger Janker’s are not cheap. If I bought mine regular price, I would be in debt for months. If you live in Calgary or can come to Calgary to purchase a beautiful coat, go to Kimberley’s on MacLeod Trail, she sells Geiger at a massive discount all year long, usually pushing 30-50% for most of the year but around holidays it can go to 80-90% off, which is how I got mine.

Sorry about the mix-up with forgetting this and stuff, I wrote the Favourite Friday post while I was waiting for a class to start so I was trying to finish before my lecture started :P I hope you guys liked the amendment, and I’ll be back with another (complete) Favourite Friday next Friday!

Here’s my outfit of the day today. It’s laundry day today, and blogging day. I’m out of the house for most of the weekend, so I need to make a few blog posts for the queue to work through while I’m out. I’ve got another YouTube video coming up, which I’m kind of excited about, I’m trying to figure out the whole videoing-on-a-budget thing. It’s a bit tricky, as I’m sure you can imagine.

I’m wearing a pair of Olsen Europe Lisa jeans from last summer’s collection with a boat neck striped t-shirt from Banana Republic also from last summer. I’m carrying an old Coach Poppy handbag/shoulder bag in black patent leather. For accessories I’ve got a gothic style necklace (can’t remember where it’s from), and a couple of rings on my right hand: the big one on my pointer finger is from Silpada and the one on my right finger was a Valentine’s gift (originally from Paris Jeweller’s) from Alex. On my left hand I’m wearing a Fossil watch with a rose gold face and a mint coloured leather band. I’ve done some henna on my left hand as well:

I was in the mood for a new tattoo, and I had some paste left from a party I did recently, so I figured that now was the time to do it! I think it’s going to stain pretty well, too, I’m hopeful.

I hope you guys like my outfit today, I’m pretty happy with it!

My latest style flip

As anyone who followed me a few months ago when I was regularly blogging will remember, my style was, as my blog name suggests, vaguely hipster. Over the course of the last few months I’ve undergone several changes in my life which have affected my style immensely.

The biggest determinant of my style is, of course, whatever stock we get in at work. Through the winter season we received a lot of cozy winter stock, so my style turned into a bit of a ski lodge-chic thing which, although not bad, isn’t what I want to be wearing 24/7/365. No, I need something significantly more exciting than that.

I encountered a man in October of last year. This changed my style in its own way. I started experimenting a little bit more to figure out what he likes on me. This turned out to be a futile endeavour because, as wonderful as he is, he is a geek and gamer and therefore doesn’t really, well, care. Which is okay. I shan’t complain. He will voice his opinion when he doesn’t like something, however, which I realized when I suggested that I purchase the new Olsen Neo City pink biker jacket (which I still might do), upon which suggestion I found out that he dislikes pink and thinks he needs to stage an intervention, since I used to hate it as well. I think I may get the jacket anyway. It makes me look sexy.

Over exam break/the latter half of winter I moved into my annual “screw everything” phase during which I forewent make-up, still bothered to do my hair because it’s honestly too short to get away with not doing it, and I opted for baggier tops and sweat pants/leggings whenever possible.

In the last week and a bit I’ve finally pulled myself out of that phase and managed to find myself a new style. I recently downloaded Adele’s “Skyfall” since I hadn’t heard it in earnest since I saw the movie several months ago, and it sparked my latest flip. I’ve gone Bond-girl. I don’t know… I like it.

For instance: today. I haven’t gotten the opportunity to take a picture of my outfit today, but let me try to describe it for you.

I’m wearing the Olsen Neo City black viscose dress: http://www.olsenfashion.com/ca/en_CA/shop/dresses/elegant-dress/13001017/80000/detail.jsp?origin=dresses&categoryPosition=7

I’ve paired it with slate tights, patent leather, knee-high boots, one of our old scarves (Copacabana [Summer 2012] white scarf with black and grey paint spatter effect), a very delicate crystal necklace from Banana Republic, my pearl ring, and my white Fossil watch.

I’ve done my signature spiked hair with the straightened front and a smokey eye with bronze and black and crisp liquid liner with a red-brown lip (Revlon lip tint in “Dawn”).

It looks pretty good. Even though I’ve dropped 28 lbs since I last blogged I’m still pretty squishy, so it doesn’t look at quintessentially sexy as a real Bond girl would, but I’m getting there.

I’m thinking about getting started blogging here again, so stay tuned for more.

I hope you all have a good Friday and a great weekend!

As promised, I have for you here a post about my hair transformation! Over the course of the last month and a bit I’ve undergone some drastic change with my hair, all of which I am very happy with.

I started off with hair that went half-way down my back. I had lots of fun with it, trying out Victorian hair styles and just generally playing with it. But everyday I would wear it up in a bun, I hated having it down! So I decided that it was time for a cut.

This took me to the second look, which was our intermediate look. We needed to give the hair time to adjust to being short and light so that we could see where it settled and finish the look without having some interesting cowlicks.

Lastly we have the third picture which I just took. This was the end I was aiming for and I’m very very happy with it.

I hope you guys like it! I might post something else tonight, I’m not sure. Until I see you again!

Here’s my outfit of the day for the very first day of September! I’m very excited that the month has changed, because the last few days of August were absolute torture and I have a feeling September (or at least the first few days) will be better!
Again, I’m off to work (this is the last consecutive day I’m scheduled, so I’ll wear something non-Olsen tomorrow) so I’m wearing all Olsen. I washed up my burgundy pants (which you can actually tell are burgundy today! See? I was right!) and my orange/ink striped sweater. It’s just thin enough so I don’t over-heat outside today but it’s warm enough that I won’t freeze to death at work. I’ve just got it with the same grey Coach tote as the last two days, and as usual the Life Strength band.
You may have noticed that I got another haircut. I’ll be a doing a quick post on that presently, so stay tuned!
Take care guys!

So, the colours didn’t show up as well as they could have, but I was rushed this morning, so I couldn’t do much better.
Once again, I was off to work today, so I had to dress in Olsen clothes. I paired a plain black v-neck with 3/4 sleeves with a pair of burgundy (yes, they are burgundy, I checked) pants. I put a circle/infinity scarf twice around my neck and finished with the grey Coach tote. I wore my olive green Toms with this and, of course, my Life Strength band.
That was it for today, I hope you guys liked it and I will see you all tomorrow!
